36m CIFA Concrete Pumping at South Gare Lighthouse
- Location: South Gare Lighthouse, Redcar, Teesside
- Pump used: 36m CIFA K36L-5
- Type of project: Concrete Works at South Gare Lighthouse
Project introduction
There aren't many places quite like South Gare Lighthouse for a day's concrete pumping.
Our 36m CIFA concrete boom pump was working right at the end of South Gare in Redcar, with the North Sea on one side, the lighthouse beside us and the offshore wind turbines stretching across the horizon.
It was another unusual job for the Bailey team, delivering concrete to an area of the coastal structure where access and positioning needed careful consideration.
What the job involved
The work involved pumping concrete into prepared areas around the lighthouse and its surrounding coastal structure.
The photographs show substantial timber shuttering and steel supports positioned against the existing concrete, along with a newly laid concrete section beside the lighthouse.
Our 36m CIFA boom pump was used to deliver concrete to the working areas, with the boom reaching up and over the existing structure.
It's a good example of how concrete pumping can be used for specialist coastal projects as well as everyday construction work.
The challenge
Working at the end of South Gare means you're surrounded by the North Sea, with very little room to manoeuvre compared with an ordinary building site.
The existing concrete walls, the height of the working areas and the exposed coastal location all needed to be considered when positioning the pump.
Getting the concrete where it needed to go was the important part, particularly around the shuttering and the lighthouse structure.
How Bailey Concrete Pumping helped
For this job we used our 36m CIFA K36L-5 concrete boom pump.
The pump was positioned on the concrete surface near the lighthouse, with its stabilisers set out and the boom extended above the working area.
Using the boom meant concrete could be delivered directly into the prepared sections, including areas alongside the existing walls and shuttering.
With 36 metres of boom reach available, the CIFA was well suited to this kind of work where getting concrete into position isn't always straightforward.
The result
The photographs tell the story of this job particularly well.
From the shuttering around the existing concrete structure to the newly laid surface beside the lighthouse, they show just how useful a concrete boom pump can be when working in a difficult location.
And it's certainly not every day we get to photograph one of our pumps working beside a lighthouse.
Another memorable job for Bailey Concrete Pumping on the Teesside coast.
